A bit about me...

Let me start by saying that this blog is for me to track my own personal progress in my "journey to improvement." Anything that I say or do is for my personal gain and should not be taken as serious medical advice!

It's no secret that we've all struggled living on our own, managing our own time, keeping track of our own diets, or even picking up our own stuff off the floor. Myself, I struggle with all those things as well. Moving to college a couple years ago invoked major lifestyle changes I never noticed until it was too late.

In high school I ran track, was surrounded by good and positive friends, had good grades and a bright future ahead of me. I weighed 160-170 pounds my senior year and was generally a happy person. I looked forward to the idea of college and heading off on my own. I was truly living a good life.

And then I got to college. I stopped running and starting lifting weights, made new friends, ended one relationship and started another one after a few months, and studied hard in a subject of interest. Sophomore year of college I lost contact with high school friends and even some college ones. I stopped working out in order to start working to support myself and keep focused in my studies. Junior year I worked out even less, ate poorly from stress, spent a lot of time working three jobs and wrapped up in studies, and spent time with my girlfriend at school.

And what is the consequence?

Well, health of course declined. I no longer have the strength or cardio endurance I worked on in years past. I gained 30 pounds and am currently sitting uncomfortably at 190. I lack energy and motivation to get work accomplished. I sound like a middle aged man rather than the senior I am in college!

What else is going on? My bedroom- you should see it- is in shambles. When I have a free evening I choose to sit back with a beer staring at my computer rather than making connections, improving aspects of my life or just enjoying the warm summer evenings. My friends from college have slowly been losing contact with me. Several leaving me on "read," not taking up interest in the conversation, or being mad at me for mistakes I've made (I know I can mess up).

So...things aren't going well. It seems like my life is in a rut. I'm overweight, stressed, and lonely. Why do I keep making the same mistakes?

Well, I think it's all about body and mind. Over the next two months of summer I hope to accomplish a few tasks:

  1. Lose weight
  2. Lose stress
  3. ???
  4. Success
Easy enough right? Well, we'll see. Hopefully through meditation, exercise, dieting, and enjoying time with the things and people I care about, I can finally enjoy life.

Classic tale. Let's begin!

I'll be giving weekly updates as consistently as possible. Here's where I'm starting out:
  • Height: 5'11"
  • Weight: 191 lbs
  • Chest: 41"
  • Waist: 39"
  • Mood: Sad and stressed
Hopefully it'll be better from here!
